Negative exercise stress test Does it mean anything?

چکیده

Introduction Despite its low sensitivity and specificity (67% and 72%, respectively), exercise testing has remained one of the most widely used noninvasive tests to determine the prognosis in patients with suspected or established coronary disease. As a screening test for coronary artery disease, the exercise stress test is useful in that it is relatively simple and inexpensive. It has been considered particularly helpful in patients with chest pain syndromes who have moderate probability for coronary artery disease, and in whom the resting electrocardiogram (ECG) is normal. The following case presentation and discussion will question the predictive value of a negative stress testing in patients with moderate probability for coronary artery disease.

Does sympathoadrenal activity predict changes in body fat? An 18-y follow-up study.

BACKGROUND Whether alterations in the sympathoadrenal system contribute to obesity or, rather, are consequences of it, is an unresolved issue. OBJECTIVE We hypothesized that the sympathoadrenal system plays a predictive role in the development of body fat. DESIGN At entry, arterial plasma epinephrine and norepinephrine concentrations were measured in 99 healthy men (x +/- SD age: 19.3 +/- 0...

Negative Exercise Thallium Test in the Presence of a Critical Residual Stenosis After Thrombolysis for Acute Myocardial Infarction

ischemia. Methods and Results. The relation between significant postthrombolytic residual coronary artery disease and a negative early, submaximal exercise thallium-201 tomogram was studied among 101 consecutive patients with uncomplicated myocardial infarction and at least 70% residual stenosis of the infarct artery. A negative test occurred in 49 (48.5%) patients with a mean 88% residual infa...

Clinical value and severity of myocardial perfusion defects in asymptomatic diabetic patients with negative or weakly positive exercise treadmill test

Objective: Although coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of death in type 2 diabetic patients, it is frequently asymptomatic. Myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) is reported to show ischemia in a significant number of asymptomatic diabetic patients. We studied the prevalence and severity of myocardial perfusion defects in asymptomatic diabetic patients and its clinical impact. Meth...

Myocardial perfusion scan accuracy in detection of coronary artery disease - Comparison with exercise stress test [Persian]

Introduction: In patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) noninvasive evaluation for detection of ischemia is important to avoid invasive interventions like angiography. Exercise stress test is conventionally the first study used in evaluation of CAD. Considering the noninvasive nature of the myocardial perfusion scan, we decided to compare its accuracy with stress test. Methods: Patie...

The Response of Circulating Leptin Levels to Exercise Stress Testing in Subjects Diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome

Aim. To assess the plasma leptin responses after exercise stress testing in patients with metabolic syndrome (MS). Material and Methods. We investigated 67 patients with MS, with mean age of 55 ± 7 years. They underwent exercise stress testing on cycloergometer. The lot was divided into three groups: group 1-10 patients with a true positive test, group 2-18 patients with a true negative test, a...
